Project 365: {Days 350-357}

Day 350: Our first full day in Iowa! We went out to lunch with my parents then hit the road for North Liberty to spend the evening with Chris, Nikki & Cooper Voss!  They are coming to visit us mid-January and we are so excited to get some more time with them!

Day 351: Brian & the kids spent the day with his folks and Carley & I spent nearly the entire day together!  This photo is funny bc as many of you know my computer crashed and therefore now I am using a new editing system and obviously jacked this photo up!  I couldn't find where to revert to original so deal with it. ;)

Day 352: Road trip to St. Paul to watch Tiff play basketball!  She is such a stud and I am so proud of her!  We got to stay with her that night and spent the next morning hanging out as a family!
Day 353:  Tiff's cute little house in Minnesota!! Her and 4 other roomies live there and the girls were great hosts!  We are so glad we got to spend some time seeing Tiff's life in Minnesota.  We hit the road after lunch and dropped the kids off at Brian's folks then went on a DATE to the Cafe!  Yay dating!!!
Day 354: Christmas with the Weiss family! Here are the 4 cousins on that side! Carly & Cora really love each other and had a wonderful time playing together! Christmas was so special and we are grateful the family was able to adjust their schedule to accommodate us crazy people who work in the hospitality industry!

Day 355: Christmas with the Stubbs extended family!  These are the 10 great-grandkids.  There are 9 cousins and 3 of us have children.  Carly has lots of second-cousins her age! :)  It was certainly a packed weekend with lots of food, gift-opening and fellowship! I really want to write more so I think I will post more photos from our Christmas celebrations in a separate post.

Day 356:  Monday was a day to lay low.  Carly, Cora, Luke & Grandma spent the morning playing while Kelly & I got out for lunch.  I wished we lived closer so we could see them more but it makes it pretty special when we do get time together.  Monday evening we hung with the Stubbs side. :)

Day 357: Lindsay & Jenna are both dear friends and we happened to find time to get together!  We walked through the first year of marriage as couples and built solid lasting relationships.  There has never been another group like this one!  Eli, Carly & Micah always have a nice time playing and Luke, Julia & Brielle also found one another a bit fascinating. ;)  So glad we were able to spend the morning together.  After lunch Tiff & I headed out for coffee and enjoyed a fun afternoon as sisters.  We ate dinner as a family and that night I enjoyed dominating in a game of Nerts. ;)

Project 365: {Days 342-349}

Day 342: She loves Christmas and in fact chose to dress like this, hold her lambs and pose in front of the tree.

Day 343: Met a friend at EPCOT!

Day 344: Mini golfing at the Winterland course!  This is not the best picture of the day but it includes Brian. ;)  Our time was SO much fun.  Carly really enjoyed golfing and Luke enjoys anything cozy to crawl on.  This will certainly become a December family tradition!

Day 345: Just a grey sweatpants type of day.  Lots of packing to be done before heading to Iowa!

Day 346: Our smiley boy

Day 347: I LOVE it when it's cold enough for this attire!!

Day 348: The group that welcomed us with open arms into Harvest Bible Chapel and some of our dearest friends in Central Florida!
Day 349: Flying to IOWA to celebrate Christmas for the first time in 5 years.  The trip was smooth but it's always exhausting!

Project 365: {Days 335-341}

Day 335: Our favorite thing to do during Luke's morning nap! ;)

Day 336: Madelynn & Harper came for lunch and play time!

Day 337: Out & about with Uncle Dick & Aunt Crystal! Why we didn't all jump in this picture I am not real sure.  Actually...fun fact: we generally only pose for a photo because that's the social expectation.  We have millions of photos with characters and actually do not need any more...we merely meet them so Carly can hang out with her friends. ;)

Day 338:  Luke loves how the tooth brush feels on those teeth and also finds great pride in the ability to hand me things.  He then always asks for them back. :)

Day 339: The first parking garage at DTD is done!  Here is the view before my trek into work.  (Disclaimer: I am sorry there is under-representation of Brian photos on this blog...but he doesn't seem to want to take selfies and send them to me so he can be incorporated... ;) hehe)

Day 440:  Luke LOVES seeing how fast he can make it up the stairs. Only problem? He gets stuck at the top!  Carly has been working really hard with him on how to go down back wards and we certainly celebrate when we does so, but he frequently ends up sitting at the top of the stairs crying.  In this particular photo he had confidence to lunge for it because I was sitting right there. Normally he doesn't dare!

Day 441: All pretty for church! Ha--can you tell due to Luke's stair obsession we spend a lot of time there?  3 of our 7 photos this week were taken on or near the steps. How boring is that?!?!

"What Child is This" {Luke 11 Months}

Luke has begun his final month as a baby.  11 months old.  He will be one next month.  He has been such a delight this year and we couldn't imagine a better addition to our family.  We are so thankful for our children.  We are so thankful for our son.  Our sweet, charming, smiley, sly little baby boy. He steals our hearts and fills our arms day in and day out.  We just can't wait to see what his future holds for us and are looking forward to shepherding the heart of another toddler.

I can't help but tear up when I hear songs written about Mary holding her baby boy this time of year.  There are some really great ones; both old and new that play frequently on my way to & from work.  I am in awe of how perfectly God created mankind in HIS image and how beautifully and wonderfully made we are.  What child is this?  God's child.  Someone whose body is so perfect it seems to replace it's cells 500 times each minute.  A little boy whose body contains 60,000 miles of blood vessels. The surface area of his lungs is equal to a tennis court and whose strength, pound for pound is greater than that of an Ox. Everything about the way Luke was made is perfect and astounding and we cry out in gratitude to a sovereign God for appointing us his parents.  We've loved watching Luke grow in his baby year and will enjoy one last month of it.  Not sad to see the baby stage go but only excited for what's to come.

Carly almost always calls her baby brother "Lukey Boy" and so that has become his name.  "Buddy" & "Bubba" are a close second in the realm of nick names. She adores him and includes him almost all of the time.  She is annoyed when he steals her toys but who could blame her?  When we were asked what he needed/wanted for Christmas...my answer was almost always, "whatever Carly is playing with."  Did I say she adores him? I mean't he ADORES her.  Our nanny texted me last week..."Luke loves watching Carly play! I love watching him watch her."  Lukey Boy is pretty content if sissy is around, that's for sure!

Luke understands quite a bit these days but has not really begun constructing words. He is very good with vocal inflection but no real words on any regular basis (except Dada). It is quite obvious that he has four main vocal cues: "yes," "feed me right now," "stop it you are being super annoying." and "I am so excited I could just jump up and down except I can't yet."  His favorite activity is climbing up the steps & wrestling with the pillows, followed by drinking his bottle, eating acorns (ya I can't take my off him for even a second when we are outside), taking Carly's toys, emptying kitchen cabinets, trying to find the toilet, standing and clapping simultaneously and he is finally starting to enjoy books!  He grins from ear to ear when he is read a peek-a-boo book.  He really loves Rachel, has no stranger danger, always cries when I leave for work, claps when he is dropped off at the church nursery and is happiest when there are other kids & babies to play with.  He is VERY social!

Luke eats just about everything but this week as preferred a bottle since we introduced whole milk! He thinks it is quite delicious and would say yes to a bottle at any time any place during the day (or night).  He nurses twice, has two 5oz bottles of cows milk & 2 6oz bottles of formula each day. (I know I said my goal was to be done nursing by 11 months but I tried to substitute a bottle one morning and he was so incredibly offended.  He drank the bottle and just begun the saddest cry as he nuzzled into my chest to nurse.  So....not yet. ;) He will almost always eat eggs & bananas but literally everything else is hit or miss.  He still has a very strong aversion to cheese!

Luke takes 2 naps; varying in length but usually totaling 3 hours between the two.  He has absolutely no consistency at night.  To give you a little glimpse: in the past 7 days he slept through the night for the first time ever, followed by a night he woke up twice, the next night 3 times, the next night was up for 2 hours in the night, day 5 waking up at 6am for the day and day 6 & 7 only waking up once; eating and sleeping until 7:30am.  I'm like--it's whatever at this point--but I know I have other friends out their pulling their hair out wondering why their babe wont sleep and just know you aren't alone.  I know he will sleep eventually...because that's just how God made us. :)

Can you believe it...I've been so loyal to taking standard posed monthly photos of my kids and I skipped this month! Just ran out of time! Tis life! ;)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord Jesus for blessing us with Luke Brian!

Project 365: {Days 328-334}

Day 328: Mommy & Carly both get the stomach bug passed on from this mister.  Her & I laid on the couch while watching movies which meant this little man got to empty every cabinet in the kitchen. ;)

Day 329: He loves a good bottle ;)...SO glad we started the weaning process just a tad early.  He's still nursing but he does two feedings with me & two feedings of formula.

Day 330: We made a thankful tree.  It was way over Carly's head but hey, we tried.

Day 331: Happy Thanksgiving!! Nana surprised us and joined us for the holiday.  We tag-teamed cooking/ playing and it was a delightful day!!

Day 332:  Grammy joined the party!! They came to visit me at work. :)

Day 333: Not a day goes by that she doesn't wear a pretty dress and play with the Nativity.  She says she loves Christmas. :)

Day 334: 5th Annual Thanksgiving meal with the Nelson family!! Yum. yum. yum!!

"Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Listening"

I’ve so enjoyed seeing all the photos of decorated Christmas trees, blinged out houses and cute little people Christmas outfits as I scroll through my mini feed this week.  Before moving to Florida, I cherished the tradition that Christmas décor did not go up until after Thanksgiving.  However, since moving to, well, essentially, Walt Disney World (yes I pretty much live there), I have joined the bandwagon that sleigh bells begin their ring around November 2nd when Magic Kingdom gets their yearly dusting of pixie!  So with that being said, we’ve been enjoying all that WDW has to offer during Christmas for weeks now.  Here’s the report:

Osborne Spectacle of the Dancing Lights
Our first Christmas experience is almost always the Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  That & The Candlelight Processional at EPCOT are two must-dos during the holiday season at WDW.  We made Carly close her eyes as we entered and then counted to three so she could open them right in the middle of the street. She screamed!

O Christmas Tree
We put up our Christmas tree about a week before Thanksgiving! I knew if we went to visit the lights we would totally be in the Christmas spirit and indeed we were!  Although this is usually a fun tradition, Carly started her swing of the stomach bug about 5 minutes in.  We got it up and the lights strung but then stopped for the night.  Christmas music was on with Wassail on the stove top but the rest of the night was a bummer. It's ok...that's life, right?  Carly & I decorated a few days later while Luke was napping and it was a really precious time.  She felt like she was unwrapping gifts as her little fingers found their way through the tissue paper for each ornament.  I don't think I've taken a picture of the finished product, but here's a few from putting up the tree.

Thanksgiving Day
My Mom surprised us by flying to Florida for Thanksgiving!  It’s a long story as to how she pulled off the timing of the surprise, but she was hear nonetheless.  Grammy joined us for the weekend before they were off on a long road trip to California.  My Mom & I tag teamed cooking and playing and it made the morning really nice and not at all stressful.  We had a delicious meal with leftovers for the next 5 days!  She also helped us take some family photos and watched the kids so Brian & I could shamefully go “Black Friday” shopping.

Resort Hopping
The Resorts are filled with holiday décor these days and it’s magical to view the many Christmas trees, gingerbread homes, chocolate sculptures, wreaths and carolers out and about.  We decided to tour the Polynesian & Contemporary with Carly’s new best friend Taylor, who recently moved in across the street from us. Here is a Frozen inspired chocolate castle:

We also had the pleasure of meeting up with Uncle Dick & Aunt Crystal at the Grand Floridian; the most beloved WDW resort, particularly during the holidays.  It has a beautiful Christmas tree and a gigantic Ginger bread house that we make sure to visit each year!

That's a wrap...so far!! We still need to get to the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT and we've heard Elsa now lights up the castle at Magic Kingdom (in the past it's always been Cinderella & her fairy Godmother) so we can't wait to show that to Carly!

Project 365: {Days 321-327}

Day 321: Beach day in our sporty gear :)

Day 322: Playdate with Miss Aria & Miss Anya

Day 323: I love a great sale!  It was so fun to take both kids out shopping and solo I might add!

Day 324: They both begin in their own seats for dinner and frequently end up like this: one under the table and the other on one of our laps.  Ha.

Day 325: Little buddy catches the stomach bug!  So sad!!

Day 326:  Still a bit sick but out for some fresh air!

Day 327: Carly recieved a bunch of hand-me-downs from her friend, Dani and began wearing them everyday! She wanted to wear these princess jammies so bad but it was too cold to wear solo so this was our solution.  And yes...she still has a small amount of Halloween candy that she carries around with her and gets to eat as a reward when she goes potty.

"Project 365: {Days 314-320}

Day 314: Happy 27th Birthday, Brian! This is the first time in 3 years we've gone on a date on the day of something special AND the first time I actually set up a babysitter for the kids other than when my mama comes to visit.  So this was kind of a big deal. ;)

Day 315: Doesn't that face make you melt!?  Not-so-fun-fact: on this day I lost my voice ( I had been sick for 5 days at this point) so bad that I could only whisper to my children.  I've never lost it that bad before! Nasty nasty flu/cold virus going around Central Florida and it was a full two weeks of being sick! :(

Day 316: Daddy doesn't like parties in his honor but we did have some friends over for cupcakes. :)

Day 317: I love this blooper photo.  Brian was vacuuming so I had keep-kiddos-on-the-couch duty.  Luke is about to dive off the couch onto the vacuum and Carly is completely content playing on the iPod while digging for that booger... ;)

Day 318: Gma & Gpa came for a very quick visit.  This photo is courtesy of my Father-in-law.

Day 319: Two days, two parks.  This is a pretty sweet photo considering it is so hard to pose two kids!

Day 320: Daddy & Luke's new game of using the golf club to walk.
