"One Thought Crystallizes Like an Icy Blast" {Carly 2 3/4}

This title is perfect for Carly.  Two reasons: first, she still LOVES Frozen. She loves singing the songs, quoting the movie (she enjoys watching youtube clips but not the whole movie), playing with figurines, wearing "Anna braids" and this week has given me the name Queen.  I'm totally okay with that. ;)  Secondly, her mind is discovering and learning, playing, imagining and has proven to be so beautiful as we discover her thoughts.  Whether it be new games she creates, hilarious statements, determined will or super sensitive remarks...as beautiful as ice crystals.

She is so sensitive.  Luke keeps pulling her hair and one time I gave him a little push to get him away. She burst into tears, told me not to push him and required an apology.  Oops.  That was a bit refining.  She loves to hug and kiss her friends and her brother, she is terribly frightened by scary things (I love that) and cries harder when her feelings get hurt than any other circumstance.  She's such a sensitive heart and therefore quite aware of her surroundings.

She loves the world of imagination.  This is really just beginning and I know it's going to take off!  Her animal friends are always included, she has very clear expectations and runs with ideas I present that aide in her planning.

Candy.  Always in her thoughts.

Thinks about her family and friends all the time. Invites everyone she sees (including strangers we meet at the park) to come to her house.  She speaks most about whichever visitor was last in our home and is always mentioning her friends; Holden, Taylor, Adelaide, Dani & Mali.  When we announce we are going to play with a friend her typical response is a big gasp followed by, "that makes me so happy!"

She can certainly ramble when those thoughts are trying to verbally escape her sweet mind.  She is terrible at repeating something we've asked her to tell the other parent but is pretty good at sharing a story.  We can figure out what she is saying 100% of the time but others still have trouble understanding her.  They usually pick up bits and pieces; enough to respond anyway.  Our favorite jumbled sentences are:
  • When referring to her being hungry: "My tummy not feel so better"
  • When washing her hair: "Please! Not get my soap eyes!"
  • When she needs to potty: (while holding her crotch) "Ohhhh....I need to..."
Her favorite color is pink, favorite food is pizza (although Salmon is a close second), favorite dress is a blue one with princesses on it or a pink one with hello kitty on it.  She just loves wearing dresses and requests to do so everyday.  Her favorite shoes are pink sparkly ones, her favorite piece of candy is typically a fruity hard candy, her favorite toy is without a doubt her monkey, her favorite item in the whole world is her paci and her favorite place to go is a three-way tie between a friend's house, the Mickey park or church.  Her favorite home activity is reading books and the past few weeks she has had little interest in watching TV.  I think we've gone nearly an entire week without watching TV! I love it and recognize it will not last.  She would just way rather read books.  I love that she has many of them memorized and if we cut out at any given point she will finish the sentence for us.

She rarely complains about taking a nap but bedtime is something she always dreads.  She fights a little bit but not nearly as bad as some/most.  Our routine is to head to her room & get a diaper & her jammies on, then she gets to run circles down the hall, through Luke's room, through the bathroom and back into hers.  She then sits on Brian's shoulders to place her paci up on a wing of her fan, they go turn it on and run under the fan to catch it.  She gets to do this twice.  Then, her & I both put on heels (daddy doesn't have to wear them) and we do 2 jammie dances, even though she always requests 5.  It includes a kick line, running around in circles and moving our feet really fast.  We know a jammie dance has ended when we hear her say "wiggle wiggle" and we all shake our booties.  Seriously.  Then, she puts her hand to her ear and sings the exit song to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Daddy dances like Goofy and I dance like Minnie Mouse and we finish out the song, kick off our heels and climb into her rocking chair.  She gets to choose one book, one song and say a prayer than it's "I love yous," twenty ("tony") drinks of water and "see you in the mornings." :) :) :)

There are times she becomes frustrated and like any two-year-old has moments of making steep demands.  When she is angry at someone she will either throw her hands up and pretend to shoot ice at them or she will roar at them.  I think both are quite cute.  Although she loves most social situations, her need for alone time continues to show through.  I was brave enough to take both kids out solo while Christmas shopping last week and by the final store Carly was saying ,"I no yike people, mommy."  I think that was a very clear way of expressing she was done with crowds.  So we left. :)

Ahh I could go on but I think I've captured a lot.  She is just the most precious and beautiful person I've ever laid eyes on. I couldn't love her more.  I feel so close to her and love being able to reason with her and make requests she can respond to.  I call her my big helper all the time.  She's so easy.  Meltdowns do still happen but she quickly recovers and can use her words to express herself.  I think I could go anywhere or do anything with her.  It just keeps getting better. :)

"Them Baby Blues Cuttin' Right Through Me" {Luke 10 Months}

Ten months is for some odd reason a milestone in my mind.  I vividly remember Carly becoming a different baby when she hit ten months old. She was more stable, had a predictable schedule, was really beginning to be good at interacting with me and remembering games...loved to explore and was overall pretty happy.  I think as we enter month ten, Luke has many of the characteristics that Carly had at 10 months old.  Although he frequently coins the term, "punk" due to his inability to exhibit independence and a fierce obsession with his mama, he still embodies the sweetness that is his big blue eyes gazing into ours.

Lukey-boy is learning new things every day.  Although he doesn't speak much, I swear I've heard him say both "Hi" and "Dada" on a few occasions. He is beyond proud of his new found skills of clapping and waving; which he exercises frequently!  He is signing "more please" and sometimes "all done" although he is rarely done eating.  Ever.  He is also enjoying that he can open up a cracked door (this is a big deal...before he would just shut it and be locked in a room...), splash in the toilet, pull out a cord from an outlet (guys...don't worry we keep a close eye on him & really this opportunity only arises when we are vacuuming), climb the stairs, move chairs across the kitchen, open up cabinet doors....are you noticing a trend of finding all things dangerous!?

He continues to adore his sister.  Brian & I commented the other night that we can't figure out which one of them loves the other one more. :)  Luke wants to be everywhere his sister is and they are learning a whole new level of physical contact that may or may not be quite rough!  "It's only funny until someone gets hurt..."  will I be using this phrase very soon?!

Luke enjoys most food but his favorites are: grilled chicken, black beans & corn combo, broccoli and butternut squash. He loves anything with a lot of flavor.  His only aversions as of currently are to peas, sweet potato, deli meat & cheese.  I am not kidding those were Carly's TOP FOUR favorite foods when she turned one...say what?!  I just find that incredibly interesting.

Other random things of note...still can't sit still to listen to a book...still crawls with a peg leg, loves any game you'd like to play with him, music, singing...can stand at any moment unsupported, cruises quite fast, crawls even faster, gets excited when we arrive home from work and grins from ear to ear when he hears Carly call for us in the morning of after her nap (he is always the first one up).

Luke is pretty predictable schedule-wise:
4:30am--Nurse
7am--Awake for the day & nurses again (thanks a lot daylight savings time...)
8am--Breakfast...either a whole banana, a bowl of oatmeal or two eggs
10-11:30am--Nap
12--Lunch...an array of foods in a large amount (if eating pre-made food I've stored in ice cube trays in the freezer: he eats 4 cubes mixed with oatmeal)
2pm--Nurse
2:30-4pm--Nap
4pm--Snack (Cheerios)
6pm--Dinner...he eats whatever we are having and inhales quite a bit more than his big sis
8pm--Snack
8:30pm--Nurse...although this week I've started weaning so we are giving a bottle of formula at bed time rather than breastfeeding him.  I think everyone in this household (aka me) is ready to be done nursing and I'd like to reach the end within the next month.

Can you tell he eats all the time?!!? ^^^^

I have two different sets of photos to post.  The first is actually a little shoot I captured of him a few days ago...he has 5 faces and gave me all of them in a matter of seconds.

This is the typical people watching look...hilarious.

I see this look more than anything else....still haven't figured out what it means ;)

A giggle

The charmer

Classic Luke Smile

And the typical pictures I take of the kiddos each month. I had terrible lighting but whatever...

We are so blessed to have this boy in our family.  Although there are many days I look at him and think...I didn't know you could be more difficult than your big sister...my heart melts when I think of the pleasure it is to have a little boy who loves me so much and who I get to love for the rest of his life.  Praise God for the gift of children and the inspiration and joy they bring to our lives!

Project 365: {Days 307-313}

Day 307: We watched some friend's kids so they could head out for a date...but technically...this combo is biologically possible.  5, 2 1/2, 1 1/2 & 9 month old twins.  I think 5, 5 & under would be just a tad overwhelming ;)

Day 308: "Mom..I just really really really love eating dirt.  Please, will you just let me...I'm begging you."

Day 309: Luke & I both really love this view.  She's so great. :)

Day 310:  She enjoys riding her bike for 3.2 seconds.  And really it's just me pushing her. #joyful

Day 311: "Mommy, mommy! I so gong!!"

Day 312: We had our own little tailgate before I headed into work.  Can I be honest that I'm sort of glad this year's football season is coming to a close and the fact the basketball season has started?!  It's just not quite as fun when my husband huffs and puffs at the TV. ;)

Day 313: We made our first attempt at the beginning stages of weaning!  I cut out one nursing session and substituted a bottle of formula.  As you can see he is QUITE pleased! He loved the freedom of crawling around with the bottle hanging out of his mouth.  I also know exactly how the top of the bottle is feeling in this photo.  Ouch!

Project 365: {Days 300-306}

Day 300: 300 days into the year!! And Carly is clearly so helpful :)

Day 301: So we are in this stage.  Is it bad that I ran to get my camera rather than moving him? ;)

Day 302: Harvest Bible Chapel's Fall Festival with friends

Day 303: She said she was tired...?

Day 304: Happy Halloween!  Carly may have decided it was the best day of her life.  She had two of her favorite friends run around the neighborhood collecting CANDY with her all while wearing a dress she has been begging to wear for a month and afterwards watching Charlie Brown & the Great Pumpkin while eating snacks and painting pumpkins.  Whoa.

Day 305:  YAY!!!! It's COLD! I cannot explain how HAPPY that makes me.  It may only last for 2 days but at least I got to feel the...FORTIES!!!! Oh...that's why we are in fuzzy footie jammies.

Day 306: Our annual pumpkin shoot with some friends on our Church's sign display. Hey...it was cute.

Project 365: {Days 293-299}

Day 293:  We spent the day at Hollywood Studios with the Hood clan!  Jt & Emmie were our ringbearer and flower girl...they've changed since then!

Day 294:  Tuesday night you say? No sir it is actually our Friday night!  We picked Daddy up from work, played at the Celebration Splash Pad (yes I thought we were done with water...apparently not), ate at Olive Garden and hit up one of the 5 Nike outlets in Central Florida.  Very fun evening minus when Luke pooped out of his diaper in the dressing room.  That was embarrassing, messy & chaotic.

Day 295: When you take 5 toddlers to Magic Kingdom and decide to stay all day only because leaving is too chaotic...you park in the middle of the road and feed them on the ground.  Emmie was such a big help to Shayla & I while the boys ran around enjoying the attractions.

Day 296: Tooth number two comes through and you can see his top ones aren't far off, either! And have a mentioned he loves drinking water? :)

Day 297:  My peer & I may or may not have dressed like this to lead our pre-shift meeting.  Seriously they pay me to have fun.

Day 298: My weekly text from Rachel.  I am still wondering how he fell asleep like this.

Day 299:  Just another 80 degree fall day in Florida.  Bring out the long sleeves, boots & scarves!  Posing by a pumpkin makes it feel cooler but really I am sweating here. ;)
